Bedtime story for child still in cot

We are trying to change DDs bedtime routine so she gets two stories before going to bed. Previously she got cuddles then popped sleepy into her cot.

I am finding that sitting on a seat reading her a story doesn't make her particularly sleepy. Then I am trying to put a very awake toddler into bed. She has just turned two. So I find I am doing story then cuddles then bed. So adding in a step rather than making it any more simple.

I feel if she was in a bed I could snuggle down with her in bed reading a book but the chair doesn't have that same snugly feeling.

Just wondered if anybody had any thoughts or suggestions about how to adapt the routine so I can just do stories then bed?

If she's 2 she could go into a bed now.

Oh no that's scary. She's still my baby !!

Despite the fact that I've got little baby DD2, I still hate the thought of DD1 growing up.

Yes maybe the solution is to take the side off her cot bed.

I'm all upset now at the thought of my little baby growing up. (I'll blame hormones!!)

It's a cot bed! Definitely convert it into a little bed. She will be so proud of it :) We did DS's around Easter time and he loved going to bed and snuggling up with a story. At which point I found out that the expensive mattress we had bought was actually quite uncomfortable Hmm

We sit with DC (who is 2 next month) in our bed where we read a story while she drinks her milk and brushes her teeth. Then we carry her through to her room and put her down in her cot.

We do story in our bed with cuddles, then do family kisses and DH takes DD1(3.5) to her room for another story and I take DD2 (2) to her cot tuck her in and sing a good night song.

Thank you for these suggestions. Tonight we sat in the rocking chair in her room, read her stories and she happily went into bed. Maybe a one off. Fingers crossed though.
