12 month old waking at 3 am hungry but wont eat much during day

Could anyone be able to help or shed some light on the above please!

DC1 has taken to waking in the night (usually 3-4am) screaming crying for the past week or so. Initially put it down to the fact he had an ear infection and it was very hot and so was out of sorts. However it is still happening! He eats lots of food when he in childcare and doesnt refuse anything he is given (half the week) but at home he seems to play up to us and not eat as much.

He had a late dinner yesterday in the hope of it helping him stay fuller longer and he had a bottle of formula going to bed at 7.30 but at 3am DH heard his tummy rumbling and so we gave in again and he had some cows milk, which has the effect of actually helping him sleep in til 7.30 and not the usual 6am. I am hoping it is a phase but I dont want to get into bad habits with him.

Has anyone any tips of getting DC1 to eat more and so stop the 3am screams as DC2 is due next weekend and the thought of 2 of them up at that time is filling me with dread.

Thanks in advance, from a very tired and pregnant mother!

Maybe just a growing stage, so he's extra hungry for a little while? Does he still wake on the nights he has eaten plenty when in childcare? Maybe just lots more little snacks would help fill him up in the day. Sometimes they are quite in-tune with what's going on though & he might be enjoying his snuggly little night feed!! (Not helpful for you when baby arrives of course!)
