Question about John Lewis Moses baskets...

Possibly a very stupid one!

Our Moses basket came with a bare mattress which lies on the bottom of the basket: the basket 'cover' linen goes over this, covering the sides of the basket and including a hood. There's then a third piece of fabric - a coverlet or mini blanket - which is cut to fit half the length of the basket, and the same width.

We were told that the safest way for baby to sleep would be on her back, feet to foot, with a sheet and/or blanket up to nipple height, tucked under her arms, and secured under the mattress.

But if the basket cover goes over the mattress, where on earth are you supposed to tuck a blanket?

Any tips gratefully received!

can you put the mattress on top of the cover and then put a little mattress cover on the mattress its self, you can get them they are elasticated and fit snuggly round the mattress itself, john lewis sell them so they would have one to fit.

Thanks, 5! This has been the only solution I can see, so far. Am a bit surprised as the basket supposedly comes with all the coverings you'd need - bit odd that we now have to get another mattress cover, too, IWSWIM. But think you're probably right!

you will need more than one mattress cover anyway, for the puke, snot etc that will inevitably get on it! i think john lewis sells them in packs of two, i got mine from there :) i actually just gave some to charity or i could have sent them to you! typical!

We had the waffle JL Moses basket and I always assumed that the basket cover went under the mattress. I actually bought a different mattress for it as I felt the one it came with was too plasticky. From memory I got the mattress for about £12 from JL too and it had a breathable cover. Then I double sheeted it - a Terry towelling one under a plain cotton one and then DS had a flat cotton sheet and a blanket on him until he went into a sleeping bag. That seemed to work well - oh I also tucked a muslin cloth around the head end so if he drooled etc I didn't need to change the whole sheet, just the muslin.

The blanket that came with my moses basket was too small to tuck in and thick like a duvet so I never used it.

I used a grobag from about 2 weeks rather than sheets and blankets, DD can't kick them off and doesn't wake up when put into the colder basket.
