Whingey, whiney 3 year olds.

He's driving me loopy today. Am on the point of ringing the adoption people. He's done nothing except whinge and whine all day. Roll on bedtime which may be earlier then 7pm tonight.

Oh, poor you. Whinging is worse than full on tantrum IMO. Kind of water torture, isn't it?

I always think of you, Twig, when DS1 has a whinge-fest - because I know you'd get him to stop quicker than I do!

Agree 101% with Twiglett. But also, go and give him a cuddle to try and break the cycle of each of you being frustrated with the other.

Nice idea Twig - hadn't thought of that one>. His biggest complaint at present is that I'm on the PC but I needed to rant and scream for a moment - all better now

I love him really.

PC, I do that with DS1 - pick him up, tickle him, growl in his ears - soon he's squealing at me to let him down, I do, and he runs off happy to play again.

I think you will probably reach a certain stage when you can blank it out - I certainly did!!
I usually just ignore DS when he starts, and tell him I will only talk to him when he stops moaning and talks nicely! It works most of the time anyway...

I'm with Twig. Whinging provokes feelings in me which a parent shouldn't have without reporting themselves to SS, so I say 'could you talk to me in a happy voice, please?' and then 'I can't understand if you talk in that voice...happy voice please?' and then 'I can't hear if you talk in that voice' and then I ignore any further whinges, and he stops.

Actually, tbh, sometimes I forget myself and screech 'stop whinging!!!' before getting a hold of myself and implicating the regimme.

like so many parenting issues it is just a phase (albeit a v trying one). definitely repeat "talk to me in a proper voice" every time that hideous whining starts and refuse to respond beyond that. also forcing yourself to be funny / jokey can often change behaviour for the better.
