ds is captain of his school football team. He adores football.

The very last match of his very last primary school tournament went to penalties. He scored the winning penalty with a carefully placed curving shot that sent the goalie the wrong way- and I didn't see it because I was pouring myself a cup of tea and chatting to my friend about Tim Minchin.

As long as he thinks you saw it it's fine

seeker · 24/05/2012 21:34

Ah. Drip feed alert.
I didn't realise he had scored- I knew they had won, but I misread his face and thought he had missed his penalty, so said "never mind darling- the team won so that's what matters"

If its any consolation, you'll probably laugh about it over Christmas dinner in 15 years time.

If it makes you feel any better, I missed seeing my DD swim her first unaided width of the pool due to gossiping with another mum. The worst part was they all cheered in the pool, her teacher asked her if mummy had seen and she looked round and said "no, she's talking. AGAIN.". Blush

The last match DS played in they won 9-0. I missed every goal because I was chatting to other parents, checking on DD's etc. i lied through my teeth when he asked me if I saw his goal!

fuckarama · 25/05/2012 11:11

He asked me what we had been talking about and when admitted that we had been having an ooh, that Tim Minchin- if I was only 20 years younger session he gave me SUCH A LOOK!

Oh well, I'm going to his awards ceremony this evening- about a million years in a conference room in Margate white everyone gets medals and people make inaudible speeches. I will clap extra loud......

I dropped DS off at his end of season rugby awards the other week - left him there for 5 hours with barely a backwards glance. He won the player of the season award - and not one member of his family was there to see Blush - DH was working. To make matters worse he brought his lovely engraved glass trophy home - and trying to make amends I put it straight up on the mantlepiece - dropped it and it smashed. It had been in the house all of 5 minutes. Luckily DS is an easy going sort of chap and he doesn't seem to have held it against me.

BlackOutTheSun · 25/05/2012 18:14

Oh no, I think it should go to turningvioletviolet Grin

Well, I'm back from the awards ceremony. It was more ghastly than I can possibly describe. But I stayed to the bitter end, and I don't feel remotely guilty any mo.

Still wish I'd seen his penalty though..........
