ds1 has been in hospital this week(he's 2)and has been really poorly. He was discharged on thursday and since then, ds1(aged 5) has been really playing up.he's being really rough with his brother, rude to us,doing things that he knows are naughty-chucking the bucket of lego all over the floor for eg.
i'm sure it's an attention thing, but am not well myself and i'm really finding it tough.any tips?

Either ignoring or distracting is the only thing I think will work. Either one will be draining for you but you won't be giving him the attention he is trying to get from being naughty.

i'm just worried that the whole hospital thing has really freaked him out and by ignoring him i'm making it worse.dyswim?

at 5 he might be able to talk to you and tell you whats wrong. I know kids find it hard to put feelings into words but maybe see what he has to say anyway.

I don't have any experience of it myself so can't really help, sorry.

He wants your attention, I bet you've been busy with the little, quite naturally.
Kids would rather be smacked/yelled at than ignored. Can you give me some one to one time alone tomorrow ???

i agree angela.i was just saying to dh that we must give him some intense one on one tomorrow.
