Is 7yo too young for a Nintendo Ds?

Ds1 is 7 soon, he has wanted a Nintendo Ds for the last year and was so sad when he didn't get one at Xmas. I think he is a bit young still but we have looked into it and can afford a DS lite.

hope not as ds (5) has had one since he was 3!! (great for taking on holiday). DD (8) was 4 when she got her first bog standard ds lite. They now both have the 3DS although they dont use the 3D function (there are games you can only get for the 3DS which is why we got that one for them). They go through phases of playing them and at other times have no interest in them.

I think thats the right age for one, my da and a lot of his friends got them at age 6.y ds now wants a 3ds but i'vd tried one and it hurt my eyes so i wouldn't advise a 3ds ( even though you can turn the 3d off, i think the temptation would be too great!)

DD has had one since she was 6, it's DH's old one, he's a gamer so it's been hard to keep DD away from stuff like that. We managed to hide our Wii from her until she was 6 - but to be fair, she gets lots of exercise on it and the Wii fit has helped her with her balance and hypermobility. Although obviously we can't use the same excuse for the Nintendo Ds, but it is useful in the car or drs waiting rooms etc and she doesn't obsess over it.
