my ds has a (now) big scab in his chin he is making it worse by constantly picking and messing with it.

i try and cover it in the day but as soon as he goes to bed he picks so by the time he wakes up its like a blood bath. im at my wits end i dont know what else to do. i try abd tell him no firmly but what else can i do?

Can you cover it with some of that breathable gauze before bed?

My 2.5 DS was picking some skin round his nose and it was looking sore. I showed him in the mirror what it looked like and where it was sore, and told him if he picked it he would have to go to the doctor. He's not keen on the doctor so think it might have helped a bit. He definitely looked concerned when he saw the crusty bit on his own nose anyway

I had the same problem with dd - was worried she would get scabies from constantly picking ! Best advice I was given was to use germolene which has mild anaesthetic effect, so calms the itching/soreness and makes the child less aware of the scab. It gets to be a habit for them doesn't it. Pre school really helped with dd - gave her stickers for not picking while she was there. Maybe you could do a sticker chart and reward at the end of a week if he can not pick at night ... Good luck !

last night was the first that he had left it alone in about a week. so maybe I'm turning a corner.
