Am I being unrealistic thinking that my size 2 totsbots will last until ds is potty trained?

Or will I need to get some size 3's at some point? He is 6m and 16lbs just now.

yes! actually i have no idea... is he tall?

ds is pretty tall (98th centile)... he is 1 and he weighs almost 25lb and is almost out of his size 2 tots!
they go round him fine, they just don't come up far enough

Miaou · 14/02/2006 20:49

Um...not sure how tall he is! I think he might be tall as everyone keeps saying "oooh isn't he tall?" but that's hardly a reliable indicator!!

OK next question - how many (for "many" read "few") size 3's can I get away with?

ds and several of his friends have worn tots size 2s until potty trained with no problems. none of them massively chunky though tall...

Thanks tassis - maybe there's hope then

Am loathe to shell out for more nappies, I'm such a skinflint

dd2 went straight into size 3's at around 1yr old (when i started her on cloth), even tho she was one i thought, they are not going to last. but they did. she came out of them about april last year at 2.5yrs old. if you do need to buy more, then only get 10 or so, just wash them more often.

Miaou · 14/02/2006 21:01

Would I really need as many as 10 misdee? I managed ds from newborn with only 12 totsbots (did a wash each night).

have a look for second hand ones on ebay miaou!

tissy · 14/02/2006 21:08

my dd did last to potty training in her size 2s, BUT she's a girl (tend to train faster) and she's skinny!

Miaou · 14/02/2006 21:08

Well I thought of that starlover, but I thought I might be better buying new so that they will do for the next one as well - secondhand ones might not be up to the job for another two kids! Will look anyway though nearer the time.

dd2 was a heavey wetter, i did a wash every other night, plus she had(has) very loose regular poos sorry.

fruitful · 14/02/2006 21:30

Aagh! You mean I'm going to have to buy more nappies? Dd wore size 2s until she was potty trained, but that was at just past 2 and she is on the 9th centile. Ds is a bit bigger and taller. Drat. He'll have to get potty trained at 18mo then...

Miaou you can sell on size 2 tots pretty easily on Ebay, especially if you sell them as a bundle. Hopefully you will be able to use the proceeds to help fund the next lot.
I have found that tots can get a bit saggy in the elastic, especially if they are regularly tumbled, so new ones might be an idea if you want to use them again.
You could always get a few different nappies, like maybe a Bumper, or a Huggle for nights, or a Fuzzi Bunz for days out, the list is endless.

I've just been having a look at your site, maisiemog! It's very good. I need to hang on to my size 2's for now as we might need them for no. 4 (if there is a no. 4), hence why I am being such a skinflint . I noticed on another thread someone said they used terry cloths with a wrap - I am quite handy with a nippa so that's definitely a possibility I think. I have bookmarked your site btw!

Thanks Miaou, number 4!!!
Sounds very practical.

We've got size 3's, and have been using them as night nappies since ds was a lot less than 12m. I'd advise anybody buying lots of size 2's, to get some 3's as well. We've got about 10, so hopefully by the time he's out of the 2's, he'll be nearly potty trained, and that will be enough. I only wash every 3 days at the moment, but that will probably go up when no. 2 arrives!

DS's size 2's went tight for a while, but then he grew up and slimmed down, and they fit well again. I think nippa ones are better for fitting longer.

Also, some people seem to buy old saggy tots just before nappy training (when you mainly need them for wees), as once the elastic has gone a bit, they get a lot bigger. You can pick them up on UKP for virtually nothing or FFP.
