Hello everyone,
I am desperately struggling to find a reasonable children's nhs gp in the finchley central area so could anyone recommend one for me? We are currently with dr cavendish and i have no words for how rubbish it is, sorry if anyone thinks that surgery is good! so could anyone recommend someone for me? i know there are good private paediatrician's out there but i don't always have the budget for that and i just want to find a gp that is a little more concentrated on children if they exist?
many thanks

Hi GP surgeries in the NHS don't specialise in paediatrics (like they do in some European countries). GPs here are generalists and see LOTS of children, if they need a more expert opinion they will then refer to a hospital based paeditrician. Sometimes there are doctors who have had more experience in paediatrics and may have a special interest in the area and it may be worth asking at your practice if there is a doctor like that there (but this is not information that is really readily available when you join a practice). It may be best to 1. Discuss your concerns at your Gp surgery with the Gp & ask for a rrferral or ask if any other doctors available. Or 2. if your really not happy change doctors.

thank you benne81, i am currently trying to change doctors due to lack of them doing anything...ever..., my son is a cardiac patient, so i'm not just a neurotic mummy...! but i am asking around my neighbourhood, just thought that maybe someone who lives locally might have someone they thought was very good with children. It's just a shame there aren't paediatric based GPs available. I have been referred to see a paediatrician at barnet but that takes forever to get an appointment so just a little frustrated at NHS at the moment, which is a shame. Many Thanks for your advice, i'm guessing you're probably a GP yourself or within that field somewhere so will take note.
