Babies and colds etiquette

I have a genuine question and one I feel a bit stupid asking. I have 8 month old twins so when we catch a cold we are sick for ages... usually one baby, then me, then the other baby. I assumed that if one of us had a cold we shouldn't be going to any groups or activities so we end up being quarantined at home for two or three week stints. But yesterday at the library reading and rhymes session I noticed other babies with coughs and obviously snotty noses so wondered if my assumption was wrong. Obviously if the children were very ill I would keep them home but if they are only mildly coldy is it frowned upon to take them to activities?

I mean that we stay in to avoid passing the cold on, in case that wasn't clear.

I think if you stay home every time there's a runny nose you'd never leave the house. As long as everyone follows basic hygiene rules like hand-washing and disposing of tissues properly there's no reason why being in the same room as someone with a cold will mean it gets passed on. Obviously if someone in the group is immune deficient or has some severe respiratory problems you'd probably give them a wide berth but otherwise take tissues and life goes on.

I take my twins out if they just have a mild sniffley cold as long as they are ok in themselves.

Thanks. I was hoping that's what people would say!

I take DS (now 22months) out when he has a cold. He goes to nursery 2 days a week and so his nose runs constantly! If I waited til he was well we'd never leave the house.

But we don't go out if he has a temp, rash or D&V. If we're expecting visitors I always warn them even if it's just a cold, so they can choose not to come if they want.

I remember being so cross with my friend when I visited her (before i was pg with ds) and her dd had chicken pox and she hadn't thought to mention it.
You're coping with twins, all respect to you, 2 of my DS would have finished me off!! If you don't get out it'll drive you bonkers (or it would have done for me)!!

With colds I'll carry on as usual as long as dc up to it. Otherwise life would be on permanent hold tbh. Stomach bugs totally different-I strictly do a 48 hour quarantine.
