how to start potty training

I want to start potty training my 2.1 year ds but when i put him on a potty he gets up and does not want to sit. He sometimes sits on it with his clothes on as he consider it a toy. How did you start this traing?

1.start when a bit warmer and keep his trousers off
2.to help my ds1 i bought a doll from woollies for about £6 which could wee on the potty. this prompted him to join in
3.this may sound weird but you could wee in the potty to also give him the idea and then give yourself a treat to further encourage him - could be grapes/raisins/choc buttons etc.
ignore any accidents just say calmly wee on potty thank you. potty in each room
