Unwell baby

We've just got back from A&E and there are a few things that bother me about my 9 month old. He's started to pull a face and shake which he has done a couple of times before but when we got home he did it about five times in quick succession. Which in itself was a bit of a worry and he has bruises on his shins about the size of a finger print which the doctors put down to him cruising but he's been cruising for about a month and this is the first time I've seen bruising. Are these things I should be worried about or am I over worrying?

i probably wouldn't be concerned if it was my baby no

but there is a lot to be said for mothers instinct, and if you feel that he isn't right then do see someone again.

can you describe the shaking? is it like a shiver? or more pronounced?

TenaciousOne · 27/04/2012 14:13

It's like a shiver but more obvious. He stiffens his whole body, he holds himself like he's riding a bike, it lasts seconds. He makes a face like he's showing his bottom teeth(if he had any) the face is a bit like one Bart Simpson sometimes makes and then he shakes. That's the best I can describe it.

It's the face/shaky thing that has me worried the most.

If you're concerned, take it to the doctor, but I strongly recommend videoing an episode as they never do things like that to order.

hmm could it be a febrile convulsion?

TenaciousOne · 27/04/2012 20:47

I don't think so but not 100% sure. It's just something he's started to do on and off for the last month, it freaked me a bit before but the frequency today really had me worried. He's still running a temperature and needing calpol/nurofen so if it's still happening Monday morning we'll see the doctors. I'm fed up of people blaming teething for everything, DS was unusually unresponsive and that was blamed on teething by family, the hospital had him all hooked up to machines, and took blood. I think I'm over worrying things now.

hmm well babies do often get febrile convulsions with a temperature, so it's possible

ds1 had a couple as a baby and he didn't lose consciousness, but did go stiff and shake a bit

bit about them here

i'd def bring it up with the GP again though
