I am worried about them scratching dear little DSs little peachy bum!

How can I soften them up?

i have some of those (that have been used by us now for 6m)

I have not scratched DDs bum yet, but i do use a nice soft fleece liner, which i think helps

Wash them at 60 degrees without any washing powder in the machine. You will find that this improves absorbancy as well.

Nappies become hard and crunchy when there is a build up of washing powder.

When you wash the nappies, it helps to use a water softerner like aqua softner or calgon and half the amount of washing powder.

do you have a tumble drier?
if so wash them and tumble them, or air dry until almost done and then pop in for 10 minutes or so

tbh they soften up with the first wee, so wouldn't worry too much, esp if you have fleece liners

as reallytired said, but i added a great big slosh of white vinegar into the fabric conditioner part of the machine.

I also found hanging them outside in the rain made mine soft Confused

Bamboo does go very crunchy if not tumble dried.

I always used fleece liners and agree wee softens them beautifully Wink

But isn't tumble drying supposed to shrink them ?

thejaffacakesareonme · 27/04/2012 15:45

I've got this problem with motherease nappies that have been in storage for 3 years. I've tried tumbling them with the drier balls that you get from Lakeland and that has helped quite a bit.

tumble drying shouldn't shrink them no, but do check the washing instructions first

i've tumbled all of my nappies thogh, inc tots bots and sure they haven't shrunk

ReallyTired · 27/04/2012 21:45

I think that tots are OK to tumble dry on low heat. You can't wash them above 60, otherwise you will wreck the elastic.

Thanks! I've tumbledried them and its made a little bit of difference, hopefully will improve with more dryings. I'll try th vinegar too, thanks!
