This is all new to me and yet horribly familiar from my own days at school. My oldest is a social butterfly, can't see why she can't play with different girls when she wants to, but seems to attract other kids who just want her to play with them. She ends up frustrated at not being "allowed" to do what she wants, but worried about loosing friends who she does value! It sounds trivial but she's got to the stage that she's feeling ill over it and crying before bed! I think she has trouble asserting herself with friends who have quite strong personalities, and is getting herself into a state. I want to help her to sort things out herself, but don't know how to do that?!

I would make an appointment with her teacher and tell him or her how upset your DD is becoming over the class dynamics. A good KS1 teacher will be in a position to manage friendships and they will have carpet time talking about how to play nicely, get on with others etc etc.

Thanks, on reflection think you're right, spoke to teacher who has a plan of action, feeling much better and hoping dd will too
