Hi, I have a seven years old DD from my first marriage. i am now happily married second time and my husband loves my little girl. we are thinking of trying for a baby next year sometime but i also want to study for a second degree and i will be 29 this year!
I don't know which one to do first? And my DD keeps asking when she will have a sister or brother? Another degree will be 3 years more so will i be too old at the age of 33?

Two very live and healthy babies here, first at 36 2nd at 38.

openerofjars · 19/04/2012 21:08

A resounding chorus of "Oi, cheeky!" there, then!

I'm 34 yo and 34 weeks pg with DC2. And feel better and fitter this time than I did at 31 with DS.

Petrean · 19/04/2012 21:11

WTF youareworthit!

I had my DS at 32, 2 weeks shy of my 33rd birthday.

No DD2 was born when I was 33

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 19/04/2012 21:16

I had DC2 at 33. He is the most wonderful second born child in the world (as yours will be to you, I'm sure) but TBH I wish I'd had him when I was younger. If I could rewind time, I'd have completed my family in my 20s. Degrees can wait.

anniewoo · 19/04/2012 21:25

I was infertile by 33. I don't know whySadSadSad. Go for it!

Nice youareworthit. Had one at 36 and one at 39.

Tbh it's as much about age gap, whether you will want another baby when just finished studying (may want to work ,spend more time with dc ,if can afford it etc )

lifesalongsong · 19/04/2012 21:31

Do you live somewhere where there are only teenage mums? Grin

Round here 33 would be when most people are thinking about their first. Of course its not too old.

VJayazzle · 19/04/2012 21:32

I had ds1 at 25, then started a degree at 29 and ds2 arrived when I was 32, in the middle of the degree, it's all do-able Wink

HaleAndPacemaker · 19/04/2012 21:32

Unless you're applying through clearing for 2012 entry, it'll be four years before you graduate...

AmethystMoon · 19/04/2012 21:37

Just about to have my first at 37. So def not too old at 33 but obviously fertility does start to decline and risks of some genetic problems do increase with age. I'm studying for a degree with open Uni at the same time as working full time and baby on the way.... Where there's a will there's a way Grin

Northernlurker · 19/04/2012 21:39

Age gap wise I would think about whether to do it now with a 7 year gap would be best or have a ten year gap and cosider whether you actually might end up having 2 more dcs? There's 6 years bewteen dd2 and dd3 and they do play together quite well. There is 9 years and two days Grin bewteen dd1 and dd3 and it's a very different relationship - very close and loving and immensly rewarding to witness but not 'playmates' as such.

Babylon1 · 19/04/2012 21:41

I'm 33 and about to drop my 3rd. I was 26 when I had my 1st and 31 with my second. You're not too old xx

bringbacksideburns · 19/04/2012 21:41

No.

Had my first at 32 and second at 34.
I'm not on a zimmer frame yet.

taylorsweet · 19/04/2012 21:44

thank you all Smile i don't think i can handle a degree and a baby at the same time! i suppose i am little worried about the age gap if i wait and have heard that it gets a bit risky after 30! you are all so brave having babies in your thirties......my husband wants a baby but not this year, we are talking next year as we will be a bit more stable! ohhhhh decisions
By the way i was thinking of doing social work

It really depends on you, your family and what your priorities are - no one else can really answer that for you. I don't see that your age is an issue - had my first at 40 and haven't ruled out doing it again (not sure dp knows that though :).

taylorsweet · 19/04/2012 21:50

oh and i can't do social work at OU as you need to supported by employer etc etc! already working in the nhs but in admin!

Im 33 and just had my second. I dont feel too old. I feel like one more would be lovely. I had my first just as i turned 30. Goodluck with which ever path you choose.

Northernlurker · 19/04/2012 21:54

I work on the NHS admin side too Grin Good maternity leave Grin

Northernlurker · 19/04/2012 21:56

Or to give the other view dh and I were proofreading my dissertation whilst on the ward being induced with dd1 - 14 today! Grin I was pregnant the whole of my final year. It worked out fine although the department did have to write me one special paper as finals were starting and dd1 was 2 weeks late.......

bringbacksideburns · 19/04/2012 21:56

Brave?

Why? Suited me. I didn't want a baby at 20, i was too selfish.

5madthings · 19/04/2012 21:57

not too old at all, i am 33 and have 5, if we can afford it in a few years i may have one more!

btw i had my first when i was at uni and doing my degree, hard work but doable!

ginmakesitallok · 19/04/2012 21:58

I had DD1 when I was 29 and DD2 when I was 35 - certainly didn't feel either old or brave!
