Found birthday present

Hi all,
Am feeling really distraught as my son has found his birthday present. He is about to turn four at the weekend and I bought his present months ago. It has been hidden in our study for weeks and weeks but tonight either myself or my husband can't have shut the door properly and I found my son in there playing around with his present.

I am not really sure what to say to him about it. He will know it is for him as he has been asking for it for ages. Any advice please?

Can appreciate how disappointed you must be! I'd remove it as quick as poss and say something fun like : ooo! Cant believe you found it! You are a fab treasure hunter!! I think we will hide it and have a treasure hunt to see if you can find it again!! - and try and spin it out until the weekend!! You could leave clues for the rest of the week with very small prizes to keep him engaged and distracted - hopefully the fun of this will highten his anticipation of finding the big treasure on his birthday even thought he knows what it is - will still be fun and exciting!

Mind you I have no idea if a four yr old can do clues?? But I am sure you could adapt some kind of version !!!

Oh poo - The little monkey! I'd be a bit miffed too. Really like NearlyCooked's idea though.
