Pirates band of misfits- what age?

Anyone who has seen this film, is 3.5 too young to see it? Is it too grown up for this age??

We went to see this last week with our DS who is 3 years and 5 months - he liked it but I thought it was a little bit violent (people being run through with swords, fight scenes and such) and actually should have been at least a PG. A film like that would never have been rated U when I was a kid. The guidance at the start said it's generally suitable for children over the age of 4. I would say don't go.
