This morning, after breakfast my DD6 turns to me with the most excited look on her face, "MY TOOTH!" then she ran down to her bedroom...

Blush

I forgot...

She was in tears...I said, oh, I stayed up all night last night, so she prob. didn't come because of me... Blush She saw me awake.. "mom why didn't you go to BED!"

My DD8 is now at an age where he doesn't believe in the toothfairy, Santa, etc. He's too much of a butt head, and I do worry, if I sit him down and talk to him, he WILL say something to DD6...

toothfairy screwed up AGAIN... Confused

My SO, went to do the tooth once, and my DD8 caught him. Guess SO stood there digging in his pocket for change... Angry and told DD8 to go back to bed... hense...DD8 doesn't believe in toothfairy...

Years ago DD2 had put her tooth under her pillow and gone to sleep. An hour later DD1 (who was about 11 then) gave me the tooth and told me that she'd put money in it's place.

When I thanked her she told me that she remembered what it felt like when the tooth fairy didn't come on the first night Blush

I've forgotten a couple of times with DS1. The first time I had to come up with a very elaborate story involving a naughty little girl who caught the Tooth Fairy in a glass jar and kept hold of her for the whole night so she wasn't able to get to our house before morning. Tooth Fairy wrote him a tiny little letter explaining this, and left it with a pound under his pillow before he went to bed the second night. The second time I forgot, a pound coin appeared under his pillow while he was getting ready for school. Turned out the TF had got delayed again.

Then there was the time his tooth fell out while he was cleaning his teeth and the bloody thing went straight down the plughole. That one necessitated a story about a kind frog who found it in the drain and handed it over to the TF, who left a pound on the kitchen table in the middle of the night.

When Ds2 swallowed his first tooth the Tooth Fairy didn't go looking for it, she just left the money and no-one asked any questions.

Our tooth fairy went through such a bad patch that dd resorted to writing to her. To be fair the tooth fairy did answer the following night (with cash) as follows:

Dear dd

Thank you for your letter?I don?t get many letters so it was lovely to read yours.

What a lot of questions you have! You must keep Mummy and Daddy busy with all your questions.

Nobody really uses my name these days. It?s been so long since anyone used it, I?ve almost forgotten it myself. My mummy and daddy had to think really hard about it and in the end they chose what I think is a really pretty name?they called me Lily, after the flowers in their garden. Most people just call me the Tooth Fairy though and I don?t mind that.

I love pink?and I think you probably do too (I had a quick look at your clothes and I noticed you have lots of pink too!). When I?m out collecting children?s teeth I wear a pink dress that looks a bit like a ballet dress. It has lots of sparkly bits but not many frills because they would get in my way when I?m flying and I don?t want to get stuck in anyone?s window or under their pillow!

When I?m relaxing at home I still like to wear pretty dresses and feel very special so I have a lot of pink and purple dresses. I like really jazzy tights (bright colours with stripes and spots are my favourites). My wings sometimes get in the way but I love them so I don?t really mind?they?re all silky and soft and in the moonlight they glitter.

I like cooking and my favourite food is fairy cakes. I like it when they have chocolate chips and sultanas in them?how about you? I like pasta too and my mummy taught me how to make the most delicious chocolate pudding and if there are no fairy cakes in the palace kitchen, that?s what I like to eat!

I?m so pleased you think fairies are cool?we work very hard and it?s nice to know that little girls and boys like you appreciate what we do. I have lots of help in my work?my fellow fairies are my best friends and it makes our work so much fun.

With lots of love from

The Tooth Fairy
(Lily)

I called my dd's tooth fairy Lily too in answer to one of her letters!

I forgot to put the money under the pillow a few times - the first time I did it I had to think quick and came up with 'It was raining - Fairies can't fly in the rain!' Luckily my story was backed up by Tinkerbell Movie when they too claimed they could not fly in the rain - phew!

I convinced my son on sunday that the tooth fairy was playing april fool and thats why she hadnt come! He was weeping but then thought it was a great april fool! miraculously she came during breakfast!

AllShiney · 04/04/2012 23:18

I did this a few times too.

I usually said it was because I was awake very late or because grandad was working nights and when she saw his empty bed she thought he might be awake and see her.

DD is 11 now. She lost her last baby tooth about 6 months ago and just handed it to me saying 'I guess I won't be getting any money for this one...."

crustyonion · 04/04/2012 23:24

Years ago I spoke to the BT operator tooth fairy on the phone when I lost a tooth at school. She promised me 50p. I usually only got 10p so I was delighted. Dad regretted not fixing a price before letting me talk to her. Grin

The tooth fairy has occasionally left notes apologising for not making it the first night due to unexpected volume of teeth. More credible than my father's "look, here it is, you obviously didn't look properly" Hmm

workshy · 04/04/2012 23:41

our tooth fairy got held up by bad weather in france once (lovely little letter explaining)

the times wen they fall out around bedtime when I have no bloody change then the tooth fairy is generally already out and about on their rounds so has put them on the list for the following night

My X's 1st wife...well, she knew the tooth fairy personally, and had agreed to keep my stepson's tooth... she even had the tooth fairy's direct phone number.. LOL

DB1 once tried to explain inflation to the tooth fairy and got a very snotty informative note back explaining the spiraling operational costs and the falling market price of teeth.

peeriebear · 06/04/2012 22:33

DH had to be the tooth fairy last night because DD1 had put the tooth on a high shelf next to her very high Ikea loft bed! I'd have had to clamber up on to her bed otherwise.
The tooth fairy has forgotten a few times here, but I bluffed with "I expect she's very busy/it was very late when it came out" or did a quick switch first thing!
I've just remembered- I used to write teeny tiny letters for my little sister from the tooth fairy and leave tiny flowers and pretty pebbles. She loved it :) It's good to remember I wasn't a turd to her all the time Blush

mrsseed · 07/04/2012 20:51

my nephew told my dd (after I forgot one night) not to worry as it meant the tooth fairy was just really busy that night, but you get double the next night to make up for it. Dd now hopes that its a busy night!

sashh · 09/04/2012 06:35

This explains why a friend of mine had to leave the tooth in a pile of salt on a saucer in the Kitchen. Harder to forget and the coin appears on the salt.
