DD turns 8 in a few weeks time and we have been organising a party with her. There are 30 kids in her class and TBH I am not a big fan of whole class parties.

I have suggested she invites 7/8 girls (about half the number of girls in her class) to a have a nail/hair/makeup type party.

However, I cringe now the invites have gone out as of course some girls are not invited and also none of the boys! As I speak to many of the mums of these kids would you mention it to them or as DH suggest most parents will understand that the whole class cannot come and say nothing.

I am sure some parents may expect an invite back if my DC has been to their party, I don't follow this generally as kids at this age seem quite fickle with their friendships.

what are others opinions/experiences?

No, by 8 I'd say the whole class parties are much less common thank god. If it comes up in conversation at all, you just say that you're only having a few kids o this time.
