Hair washing

So...my 17 month old daughter hates having her hair washed. It's long enough that we have to dry it with a hair dryer too, she's not that keen on that either! How often should we be washing her hair? We had to do it tonight as she had food in it, but other than occasions like that how long can we leave it? Or should we be doing it regularly to get her used to it as well as to clean her hair?!

She's ok at having her face splashed a bit and loves the bath and swimming if that makes a difference?!

Thanks

At that age I probably washed DD's hair once a month, maybe 6 weeks - she wasn't messy with food and it looked and smelled fine. She hated it being washed and it just wasn't worth the battle. Now she's older it's maybe once a week, she has got much more relaxed about it now too.

If you are keeping her hait tied back or in plats during the day I would say only once or twice a week.

It helped me to have set days for hair washing then I could psyche myself up for all the carrying on!!!

If its being a real pain could you get her hair cut shorter? My dd has her hair in a bob now and it looks really cute and is so much eaiser to manage!!!

Wow girliefriend her hair isn't that long, I just meant its a bit too long/thick to towel dry. I don't like her to sleep on wet hair so we have to dry it. It's more the washing than the drying that's an issue!

my two used to hate it so we used to play all sorts of games that involved pointing your face at the ceiling whilst holding a flannel over your eyes so that mummy could tip some water over their heads!

washing once a week is fine unless they get sweaty

and no one will notice anyway

Thats o.kay I got that the washing was more of an issue!!

Will she lie back in the water to get her hair wet? Dd preferred this to me getting wet with jug or something!

DS is 2.3 y.o. and I only wash his hair every few weeks if it starts to look greasy or smells slightly (or gets food in it).

When he used to have a bath before bed, I'd just put him to bed with damp hair.
