What are your toddler's wake, nap and bed times?

Things seem to be slipping a bit here - we need to rethink how the day works out for 27 month old DS. Naps for 2.5 to 3 hours still after lunch, but the length of it may be impacting on the rest of the day and we're undecided whether we should start waking him and try to get an earlier bedtime going.

What time do your toddlers wake, nap, and then fall asleep at night?

My son is 2.9 years.

He wakes up between 6 and 7.

He naps usually from 1230 - 230, sometimes less, sometimes not at all, never any later because then he won't sleep at bed time.

He is in bed, lights out, around 730. Sometimes he's right to sleep, sometimes he's awake until about 8.

TheSurgeonsMate · 28/03/2012 16:35

22 months. Bed at 7.30ish. Wakes at random times at the moment, but nothing that kills us - 6 - 7.30 say. Naps [at nursery] for 1.5 to 2 hours from 12; [at home] 2 hours plus from about 2 or earlier if I can organise it. I'd prefer that to be a bit earlier, or the nap a bit shorter. If she's asleep after four I get a bit antsy.

Ds is 2.5 in bed for 6.40 asleep by 7 (normally) wakes up between 7 and 8am doesn't normally nap but some days has an hour around 1

36 months: wakes between 6.30-7.00, naps whenever in the car/pushchair if we are out and about in the fit if we are at home 1.00-2.30 (ish), bed usually gets a bottle at 7, lights out 7.30 and then that's it sometimes falls asleep immediately sometimes chatters in his cot until 9. Unless he's screaming his head off I don't go into him.

WipsGlitter · 28/03/2012 16:43

Sorry 26 months, not 36.

ginmakesitallok · 28/03/2012 16:46

DD is 2 and a half - up at about 6.30 normally, nap from 11.30 til 1.30 or so, bed around 7.

Today - up at 6, "nap" between 11.30 and 2.15, bedtime - as soon as I can get her there

whenskiesaregrey · 28/03/2012 17:23

DS is 2.8. He wakes between 8-9, has a nap if he goes to sleep in the car, or if he looks particularly tired or grumpy, then goes to sleep about 8.

On the days he has nursery, he goes to bed a bit earlier, and wakes up about half 7. He sometimes has a nap for an hour, depending on what room he is in Hmm but when he hasn't napped at nursery, he will come home in a stinking mood, and will go to bed about 7ish depending on if we can get organised in time.

Three hours sleep in the afternoon does seem quite long. I wouldn't like DS to be sleeping any later than 3-3.30 as it seems to make him quite grotty, and later to bed that night.

AngelDog · 28/03/2012 23:17

Wow, 3 hours is pretty long for a nap.

DS is 2.3. He wakes at 7am, naps at 12.45. I wake him after 1.5 hours (he'd sleep for 2 but then would be really late to bed) and is usually in bed between 8.30 and 9pm. He needs a bit less sleep than the average for his age.

If you're going to wake from a nap, picking a point at the end of a sleep cycle will make it easier (45 mins, 1.5 hours, 2 hours, don't know what the next point is, I'm afraid). DS has always been reset to 'awake' for a certain length of time after a given length of nap - after a 45 min nap, he'll get tired after about 5 hours; after a 1.5 hour nap, it'll be about 6 hours till bedtime; after a 2 hour nap, it'll be 6.5+ hours before he gets sleepy again.

amyboo · 29/03/2012 12:53

DS is 2 (tomorrow!) and currently wakes around 6/6.30am, naps (at creche) from 12ish to 2pm ish (sometimes only an hour, sometimes the full 2 hours), has bath at 6.45pm, and usually tucked up in bed just after 7/7.15pm. Some nights he falls asleep straight away, others he won't settle till about 8pm.
When he's not in creche, he'll generally only nap for about 1 hour maximum, usually around 1/1.30pm. He doesn't really wake much in the night any more...
I'd say that a 3 hour nap is pretty massive for a 2.3 year old. Maybe try limiting it to 2 hours?

IAmBooyhoo · 29/03/2012 12:58

my ds is 2.10. he wakes about 7.30-8am he doesn't sleep during the day at all and hasn't done for about 6-8 months (before that he would have maybe 45mins-an hour a day after lunch). he is usually in bed for 7-7.30pm and sleeping within 15-30 minutes.

thetigerwhocametoteax · 29/03/2012 13:57

DS is 21 months and up at 7.30am ish, normally naps for 2 - 2.5 hours from about 1pm then we try to get him in bed for 7.30 but he normally quite happily chats to himself til 8 or so.

RitaMorgan · 29/03/2012 14:01

DS is 20 months, wakes up about 7-7.30am. He would nap for 3 hours if I let him, but usually he goes to sleep about 1-1.30 and I wake him up at 3.30pm. Bed at 8pm.

GinPalace · 29/03/2012 14:03

DS is 21mo
Wakes about 7am sometimes bit sooner, esp. if teething
Nap after lunch between 12 and 1, occasionally a bit later.
Wakes after 2 hours, sometimes a bit more, if more tired for some reason. He would only have a 3 hour nap if he was ill say.
In bed and lights out 7.30, asleep pretty quickly.

moojie · 29/03/2012 14:07

Ds is 2.9 almost and his day is as follows:

Wakes 7am, nap at 1.30-2.30, bedtime 7pm.

We went through something similar a few weeks ago and ds would still sleep 2hrs +if I let him but I now wake him after an hour and it seems just about right. I started waking him after 1.5hrs initially and reduced it back but if he is particularly tired he will go down at 1 and and 1.5 hrs. I always wake by 2.30pm as my aim is to keep bedtime the same time everyday.

GinPalace · 31/03/2012 10:24

Amazing how similar all these dc's are - or not so amazing, depending how you look at it! When i put ds down now I imagine we're in the company of a whole host of other mums and dc's all tucking in and giving kisses. Ahhhhhhhh. :)

BillyBollyBandy · 31/03/2012 10:29

DD1 is 2.7

Wakes up 6 - 7.30
Nap 1 - 2pm for anywhere up to 2 hours (always wake her at 4 if still asleep)
Bedtime 7 - 7.30 but asleep anywhere between her head hitting the pillow and 9pm. Sings and talks to herself though so no problem.

Bangtastic · 31/03/2012 15:02

DD is 2.9

Awake - Between 7.30-9am
Afternoon nap - 1pm-3.30pm give or take half an hour either side
Bedtime - 8pm, sometimes half an hour later so that she can see DH when he is home from work late.

Doesn't always have an afternoon nap, she is fine if we are out and about with things to do but if we're home she'll happily have one and judging by the length of it she still needs them.

GinIsTheAnswer · 31/03/2012 21:57

DS is 2.8

He wakes between 7-7:30 and naps at about 12:30-1pm for 2hrs & he'd sleep for longer if he could. Bedtime is 7pm and he is occasionally awake until 7:30

We tried to reduce his nap to 1.5hrs but this resulted in massive distress and about 40mins tears and cuddles Sad so have increased again. He is on the go non-stop when wake so I assume he needs the sleep.
