Pre-school dc's party - are you supposed to invite the whole class?

My eldest ds (age 4) is a little on the shy side but is keen to join in with the other kids in school. With this in mind our lovely nanny suggested he invite some classmates round after school tomorrow for games in the garden, snacks, etc. I agreed and was more than happy to let her get on with organising. As this is my pfb, I'm not quite in tune with the unspoken rules and protocols of schooly circles. So i just wanted to check: is it OK to give invitations to 6 of ds's classmates, or is it expected that the whole class be invited to any parties? We have a pretty small garden so inviting 26 kids really wasn't an option.

No, only one of DC's friends invited the whole class, mostly has been up to about 6.

Ask one of the nursery staff who your DS plays with most. Will help with the invites.

Cheers, 5 go mad (great name!). Totally clueless about this sort of thing so it's good to hear a second opinion.

just invite the ones he likes best, or the ones you like the parents of

I agree-just his special friends.

There isn't any 'supposed'-ignore the rest and do what you want to do. I doubt whether the DC enjoys the whole class ones.

He has mentioned 6 little ones he'd like to have round, so I reckon we're good to go. Will be good to meet the other mums/carers - usually I'm dashing past them on may to or from work, so have had little chance to socialise.
