Hat-flinging one year old... help!

Dd, just turned one, will not keep a hat on and it's driving me nuts (she has pale skin and very fine hair so I'd rather she wear one when it's sunny like today). If anyone's got a slightly older dc who used to be like this but now keeps a hat on, how old were they when they stopped trying to take it off and do you have any tips? She will just pluck it off the moment I put it on and fling it nonchalantly to one side....repeat ad infinitum. Am wondering about sewing on an elastic chin strap but I know it will bother her, she has a patch of eczema under her chin, and also not sure about safety.

Ties rather than elastic? Less irritating?

Parasol?

Elastic was the only thing that worked for us. Someone once recommended a Swedish balaclava-type thing to me for DC to wear in winter. Which I realize is not terribly helpful in this weather...

Thanks. It's for when she's walking/playing outside, so I'm unlikely to get her to carry a parasol Smile! I guess I'm really interested in when she might have the understanding to resist the temptation to pull it off.

Lol at the balaclava - might have to try that next winter Smile

i think they get better with hats at around 18 months, if that's any help!

It's dull and tedious, but you just have to keep putting it straight back on when she pulls it off. She will give up or forget that it is there ........ eventually!
