I'm new here so please bear with me.
We have decided to get the ball rolling and start a family this year. I am just really concerned I won't like/love/the baby like I love my dog.

I know, probably stupid to all the parents reading this and thinking 'Oh she will love it.' and I really really hope I will. Maybe its nerves. My boyfriend (bless him), tells me well no-one is making me choose between a baby and a dog. And if I don't love it as much then we'll still have the dog. Not helping!!
So.. did any of you mums (or dads) feel this way beforehand? Did it change?
thank you!

You won't love your baby like you love your dog. You won't love your baby like you love your boyfriend either. Your baby will be an individual with their own personality and, as you get to know them, you'll love them in quite a different way to anyone or anything else you already know. If you went on to have another baby, you'd love that in a different way as well. Good luck

I know how you feel - I'm 9 weeks pregnant and worried I won't love it like I love my house bunny! Everyone who I confess this to says I shouldn't be worried and it'll be fine - but we live next to a school and they're all so... loud and brash and sweary and I really hope mine doesn't turn out like that! Its just another worry on top of all the other worries isn't it?!

hahaha I had a house bunny too which was the love of my life! Now down to two cats and a dog.
Thank you, both of you. I just don't want to have a baby and think oh my gosh i don't like you Blush

As a serious note be prepared that you might initially think 'I don't like you'. Everyone reacts differently to a new baby. Some connect from first kick in the womb, others when the baby arrives and for other people it takes a bit longer and the love builds more gradually. All are normal.

I used to absolutely love my cats to bits and now realise they were a total baby substitute! I am going to sound horrid but to be honest when my DS arrived I loved him soooooooo much my cats just became the annoying smelly things that also lived in my house.
I did still love the cats but the proper real feeling I had for my son soon put the cat love into perspective.
