Cannot pronounce

My ds(2.6) has a very good vocabulary and expresses himself very well. He has had problems with other sounds, but has over come them. The last two seem to be "ch" and "j" which are very similar. He had a tongue-tie, but this was corrected when he was 2. He has much more movement of the tongue now and has no problem with "t" which uses the tongue in a similar was to "j", it's just the teeth and shape of the lips that's different.

Does anyone know an exercise to develop these two sounds? I have repeatedly gone over it with him (only when he is in the mood and the correct pronunciation is repeated to him each time he says a word containing these letters) but he continues to substitute "ch" with "q" and "j" with "g".

Do you think it'll just work itself out in time? TIA

Sorry, I thought the title said " cannot pronounce ch or j"

it isn't until they're about 8 that they can pronounce all letters .. not sure which ones come when though

I think this is normal at this age. I wouldn't worry.

He's ever so young, and it's really common for children not to get their enunciation correct at this age. I wouldn't bother correcting him at the moment; you can repeat what he says using the correct enunciation if you really want to but it's nothing to worry about.

Thanks all. Sorry for replying so late. I have a 3mo dd too and I just don't get the time I'd like on MN anymore! Really appreciate the replies. I just say it correctly after he says any word starting with j or ch and, bless him, he does try to say it correctly again but it comes out the same. Like I mentioned, there's no pressure and I don't keep at him about it, just gently try and show him how to shape his lips or whatever. Yes, will not worry any more and just let things happen. Thanks again.
