3week old- what is yours doing?

hi. I have a 3 week old daughter. She is formula fed and taking about 4 oz at every fees - midwife has recommended that I try to make her wait 3 hours between feeds but this is proving tricky - how often is your 3 week old going between feeds and how much do they take at each feed? Anyone got any kind of routine with your 3 week old? Thanks!

I would just feed her when she is hungry. Thee weeks is way to young to worry about a routine and 3 hours between feeds is a long time when you have a tiny tummy...

My HV recommended to feed on demand. Formula is a breastmilk substitute, so I think it's best given as you would if BF.

Babies know when they need more or need to stop unlike me Smile

Thanks

Another question! How long does your 3 week old stay awake between naps during the day? I'm trying to watch out for cues that she is tired so she doesn't get over tired ...

It's really hard, those first few weeks. I remember desperately trying to figure out what was normal and what I should be doing. My DS is 21 months now and looking back it's easy to see I should have used the go with the flow technique. I shouldn't have worried that he fed almost constantly (bf) and that he wouldn't nap anywhere but on me, that he wouldn't sleep for more than an hour for the first few weeks months.....
If your baby is gaining weight and you are feeling well then you're doing a fab job. Just go with your instincts.
If you want the reassurance of what's normal I did find this book very helpful.
Congratulations on your newborn. You have some truly magical times ahead.

My ds is just over 2 weeks old and while he doesn't have a routine as such he does tend to get up during the night and in the morning at the same times mostly but during the day he just wants to feed almost constantly or sleep on me. It can be very hard to put him in his moses basket as he seems to just waken up everytime.

I'm bf him with some formula top ups when needed, he does tend to sleep for about 3 hours after a bottle but between bf's he may only sleep between 1/2 hour and an hour and I'm never sure if he's getting enough. Teatime seems to be his worst time where he gets very irritated for some reason?! I'm still getting to know his cues and what they mean....it's hard as you only want to do the best for them.
