our staircase has the spindles and i am worried a stair gate won't fit properly cos we only have one wall to attach it too and then the pole of the banister. has anyone else had this and what stair gates did they use?

We just use a normal one, as long as the banister is quite sturdy you should be fine.

Tweeni - we have this problem too but dh has managed to sort it out.

We basically got a length of flat sided wood 2inches by 2inches - same length as the spindle and then screwed it to the spindle first and then attached the stair gate fittings to the additional piece of wood. This has worked perfectly and is very secure.

Hi Tweeni,

Please take a look at www.safetots.co.uk

We have a solution called the 'Y Spindle' for Bettacare and BabyDan gates.

This product allows you to fit their stair gates to rounded bannister posts and spindles.

Many thanks

I remember reading some guidance saying they shouldnt be mounted right next to stairs for safety, (daft calling them 'stairgates' really!).

I am about to put mine up in the hall between the kitchen and the stairs, so it can go between 2 walls and in the doorway of the living room, so it screws into the doorframe.
