When should I stop putting him in the buggy?

When should I stop putting ds1 in the double buggy when we go out? He's 3.4 and has just started five mornings a week at nursery. I take ds2 in the single buggy to pick him up, but he gets very tired on the way home. I am thinking of looking for a buggy board. But at what age is it silly to still be using the double buggy on days out etc? I am quite confused about this....he comes out of nursery with his book bag, looking like a five-year-old, and I'd feel silly putting him in a buggy - but he can't manage a whole day out walking, he gets tired. And I like the idea of a buggy board for short trips but not all the time.

dont feel silly at all, they still only have little legs at that age and nursery is tiring, when my dd1 started nursery i remember having to pick her up in a buggy where she had previously been walking, this went on till she was nearly 4.

Don't they make sitting down buggy boards now?

my ds 3yr5m still uses a buggy.

It's about 50% of the time now but handy because he still gets tired.He hops on and off it at will though,which can be irritating.
If I had a smaller child aswell I'd probably use a buggy board thing though.

buggy board would be your best bet I reckon. DS1 is just 4 and would still use it if he could (he's enormous and it all gets very heavy so we just get the bus more now!). There are plenty of childfen at his nursery who get pushed there and back in a buggy though

Cheers everyone...I am going to look for a buggy board. I don't like the idea of using it for long periods or in traffic though...ds1 is a real live wire. It sounds as though it is OK to keep putting a three year old in the double buggy. I wasn't sure if I was just being weird

DS1 used to curl up in the basket of my Mothercare travel system pushchair up until he was 4!! Did have a buggy board too but I found it uncomfortable to push the pushchair with it for long periods.

I have seen a woman letting her school child sit in a buggy and it did make my toes curl a bit. But nobody bats an eyelid at people driving the most pathetic short distances to avoid having to walk, so I would say stuff it, if he is tired, let him sit down. It's nobody else's business.

When I was working as a nanny I would say most parents continued to use buggies until about 3.5 or 4 years old. These days more people use buggy boards, but as you know MoM, I think there is a persistent trend towards pushing early independence in children.
