How long before i know if ch pox spots will scar?

My toddler, just 2 years, has had what seemed to be mild chicken pox but with about 40 spots of the face.

None of the spots scabbed badly, none on the face got scratched and none infected. But we are left with 40 very noticeable red shiny "spots" on the face - its been over 2 weeks now.

How long do I need to wait before I would get an idea of whether this is scarring or still healing?

The redness can take well over 6 weeks to fully fade, but it is not in any way an indicator of scarring. From my experience of my 3 who all had v severe chickenpox (one hospitalized for over a week) spots which scar are those where the skin surface is uneven or indented once the scabs have fallen off.

well, we didnt exactly have any scabs (odd I know), and none of them are indented now - all are slightly raised, shiney, smooth (no skin lines in them), kind of like scar tissue which is what was concerning me.

Thank you for reassurance, I've got a good month before I will have any idea really then

My dd's had the pox a few weeks after xmas. DD1 got it worse and has a few marks on her back and on her arm pit left over. The skin feels smooth to touch but has kinda darker spots and the skin looks different.

They do seem to be slowly fading but very slowly. I guess its just wait and see.

Hi, DS got chicken pox for the 2nd time when he was 6yrs, the first one mildly, the second time very poorly! There wasn't an inch of his body that didn't have a spot so as you can imagine he had a lot of scars. Anyway he's coming up to 13 soon, he still has scars but there seems to have been a lot of fading over the years and there isn't much now. This will give hope to anyones DC!

months, maybe years, I'd think.

I got chickenpox aged 15 and scratched like crazy. Was scarred by it on my torso but they were silvery white dots, not red. Now I only have 2 or 3 that still show. Don't know if that helps?

Bio oil or high strength vitamin e oil will help prevent scarring

Bio oil will not help pitted scars and should not be used on childrens faces, redness will fade definitely.
