I can't be the only one with a bit of a nappy obsession.

Can I? [confussed]

Yep, £11.85 delivered the nappy lady. I like the poppa ones as harder for DD to release. Have yet to use it on newborn, but they are meant to be birth to potty. Although pricy, works out cheaper than sized in the long run, and lovely prints. Have yet to have a leak.

Can anyone recommend a fleece wrap? I did read about a good one the other day, but cannot recall name. It was gathered at the front too. Will read back threads, but figure worth asking here too Grin

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 12/10/2012 15:44

Oops meant to say DP was broody, not 'brooch' - stupid phone. Don't know about fleece wraps sorry. Encouraging to hear that BFG DS weaned by 17 months, I'll tell DD that and see if she takes it on board! Off to google blueberry wraps... Smile

ValiumQueen · 12/10/2012 17:29

I am going to make some training pants for DD. I have some old nappy wraps and pre folds that I was going to throw away, so it will not cost me a penny. I will cut the pul out of the wraps and sew them and the prefold bits onto some Peppa pig pants. I cannot justify £30 for a flip pair with three inserts. I do not like any of the other ones.

Evening girls. Hows things? Ds3 has been a bit colicky in the evenings so not had chance to get on as much. Ds2 is teething too so its been an 8 hour scream fest in this housr.

Thank fuck for chocolate!!

Stupid question but what do the fleece wraps consist of?

Im going to take the terry boosters out the nappies i cant sell and use them fir night times. Im using bamboozles for night, are they the best do you think? Not really had any leaks no matter if i use morherease or totsbots wraps.

Ds3 is in fluff now, they're all mahoosive on him but it looks cute.

VQ thank fuck dd's bits are back to normal!!

I actually left the house properly today to go shopping.

Whoever was asking where we were im in Manchesterrrrr.

ValiumQueen · 13/10/2012 08:11

notgrownup Fleece wraps consist of fleece. You did ask. Sorry your LO has colic. Hope it passes soon. Big fluff bums are cute. DD still says her patch is sore, and it does seem to build up a bit in there. I guess it is just her body not quite got the self cleaning levels quite right. Lots and lots of baths I guess. We tried bathing her in the morning on Thursday but she yowled! And yowled. And yowled. She has not been bathed terribly frequently I must admit as I broke my leg, then having a bump the size of a small car, I have had to rely largely on DH or my mum to help. I do not like bathing them daily. Never have been a believer in that because they both have sensitive skin and prone to dryness bordering on eczema.

I plan to use bamboozles stretch on junior at night when he is small. I think I prefer them to LL, especially as they poppa down for wee ones, and the booster can be removed.

I have never used terry boosters. Never used terry. I like my bamboo boosters from LL I must admit.

Notgrownupinmyhead · 13/10/2012 08:35

So no pul inside it then? Hmmm might have to have a look.

I dont bath the kids everyday either - sane thinking about the skin. The oldest 2-3 days, the middle everyother and baby currently once a week cos hes new but will change to coincide with the middle one.

Im just being err thrifty about the terry's for night time boosters as an experiment. Wink

I hope Dd's bits hurry up and sort themselves out soon, i cant imagine the pain she must've been in with it. Ouch.

God, this baby is noisy. Not crying just grunting.

ValiumQueen · 13/10/2012 08:55

The fleece ones apparently are only suitable if the baby is likely to be moving around quite a bit, otherwise there is compression wicking, so not suitable for car journeys or in the buggy, but ok for night time and play. I could consider them for nights, but not for daytime as I would not want to be swapping just for the activity. there is quite a bit of evaporation goes on apparently. Better for the skin as not so humid as with pul. They need airing on rotation with a few others, and wash when soiled. Wash easily along with any other laundry. I have not used them. Needs to be thick fleece, or double thickness to achieve effectiveness. Considering making one to try.

Notgrownupinmyhead · 13/10/2012 15:35

He cant stay still. Not even in his sleep.

What detergent do you use? I can still smell that smell on the nappies so am gonna change detergent cos its not cleaning the clothes properly anyway.

Am now washing every other day now theres 2. Might try washing up liquid.

LeBFG · 13/10/2012 15:48

Doubt it's the detergent actually notgrown up. I only use those very gentle washing nuts and nappies have no smell unless I add essential oils to the wash. Are you giving them an extra rinse? Even better, with some washing machines you can do a pre-wash before the main cycle. This means you aren't washing the nappies in their pee, iyswim.

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 13/10/2012 16:41

I use one fairy non bio tablet and if washing at 40 I also add a scoop of miofresh sanitiser. Haven't had any problems with smells yet but I am aware that I am using lots of chemicals, occasionally I worry a bit about that and think about using ecover washing liquid or similar, but worried it won't get things properly clean. Always do a prewash or rinse though so maybe that helps stop smells. BFG what are washing nuts? Notgrownup thinking of the grunting baby makes me smile, they make so many funny snuffling noises when theyre tiny, how old is he ? DH was talking about having another one at lunch today (again!) VQ have you got into washable wipes yet? Are you planning to make them? And purple how is the DIY and nursery-decorating coming along?

PurplePidjin · 13/10/2012 16:55

The kitchen is currently mostly in the living room, the shop ordered the wrong width of lino. So currently on hold till Wednesday when the fitters come back Sad I sterilised all the hand me down toys this morning, though, and will start on washing clothes tomorrow if the weather holds!

I've heard you only need a tbsp powder or the detergent reacts with the wee and smells minging, might be worth trying?

ValiumQueen · 13/10/2012 17:06

I use half a tablet of non bio. I do at least one pre rinse two if really smelly.

I have assembled everything I need for washable wipes but not yet cut and finished. I will do it deffo when boy comes as I spend silly money on wipes.

LeBFG · 13/10/2012 17:50

Washing nuts, or soap nut I think they properly called explained here. Just nuts from a tree. Very delicate. Without phosphates etc that you find in normal wash powder. You can use them for clothes that only need a light wash too. Cuts back on washing bills too. The nappies really need very little to get them clean.

I made and used washable wipes early on but found they were a nightmare to wash. It could be our cheapo machine but they kept getting into the drum and clogging up the draining water. Nightmare. I now spend silly money on throwaways.

Just remembered, notgrownup, watch the rinse cycle . Do you still see froth moving around? If so, the detergent isn't getting rinsed adequately. As PP says, too much will make them smell too.

S this what i need for out and about??

ValiumQueen · 13/10/2012 18:28

PP that waterproof bag is more for maps and cameras. I would not recommend it for nappies. There is a thread a while back that discusses wet bags.

Notgrownupinmyhead · 13/10/2012 19:08

Hes 4 weeks tomorrow and either sounds like a kitten or a grunty old maaaan.

cold rinse them first twice. And use Fairy powder n rinse til clear after. Ill fanny about with the dose as TB said to use a full dose of detergent... Hmm

We'll be having the kitchen in the living room too on the 31st, housing are plastering the kitchen its boggin atm and needs a makeover.

Been drying the fluff on the airer and didn't realise how much i own Blush

Notgrownupinmyhead · 13/10/2012 19:09

Le BFG could ye put the wipes in the bag that sits in the bucket or an underwear wash bag??

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 13/10/2012 19:21

Intrigued by soap nuts, what temp do you wash the nappies at with them? Might give them a go. I do worry about poo germs hence all my chemicals and washing at 60.

Purple, I've been looking for a nappy wet bag too after had a leaky nature babies one, the ladies on this thread recommended My Little Patch and Monkey Foot wet bags, I've been having a look and they both come in lovely prints, not cheap but am sorely tempted... Would it be too sad to ask for one for Christmas?! You can just use a carrier bag of course and tie it up tightly with the nasty nappy inside, but that's no fun Smile Hope you get your kitchen sorted soon, kitchen in the living room is not fun!

LeBFG · 13/10/2012 19:22

I looked at the time for something suitable. Problem is our local supermarkets are crap. Must be something on t'internet? Having a new kitchen and new baby at the same time? Hat off to you! Don't forget a splash of vinegar in the rinse...

I remember DS grunting a lot at that age - just like you said, an old man. I always though it was cos he was premmie so the digestive system wasn't up to much good, but perhaps this is common in babies. Interesting.

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 13/10/2012 19:23

Yes BFG get one of those mesh bag things to stop wipes from escaping. I've not lost any of my cheeky wipes yet

PurplePidjin · 13/10/2012 19:24

Yeah, plastic nappy sack to start! I just fancied something a bit sturdier, will keep looking...

Was meant to be last Thursday, now it's the coming Wednesday

ValiumQueen · 13/10/2012 20:05

Might ask for a Weehuggers bag for Christmas. Sorry cannot link, but Babykind sell them. Like a proper changing bag, but waterproof. Never seen one in the flesh though.

PurplePidjin · 14/10/2012 09:23

I might get some oil cloth and leather needles and make my own, tbh! I have plenty of (polar) fleece if it needs lining.

PurplePidjin · 14/10/2012 18:44

Sod that i just bought a monkeyfoot xl for £12 on one of the big pl fb boards :o and it's got guitars on :o:o

ValiumQueen · 14/10/2012 18:51

Congratulations PP
