We are moving to Africa and we've been told that imported nappies cost a fortune so we are moving across to reusable. I have NO idea where to begin with this, can any give me some pointers for good nappy brands (no leakage being main priority, and not too huge!) and also good reusable wipes.

DS will be 18 MO when we start using them, and they will be washed by hand Shock .

Thanks.

My first thought would be to go for 2 part nappies instead of all in ones as they will be quicker drying and you won't need to wash the outer part every time so it will reduce (slightly) the amount of washing

Is your DS a particularly heavy wetter? If so you may want to consider bamboo nappies as they are more absorbent, but slower drying. My DS is fine in fleece but DD weed through anything that wasn't bamboo in record time. I mainly use Lollipop nappies and find them pretty reliable and they've lasted me well, tits bots do a lovely stretchy bamboozle nappy and are just releasing some really cute new prints for their wraps Grin Motherease Rikki wraps have a very good reputation, or airflow if you prefer poppers to velcro

Hope that helps more than it confuses you

I was going to recommend Onelife 2-parters as my 2yo is still comfortably in them. Looking for a link I see they've been discontinued, but I think that Motherease are really similar

Be very careful drying nappies in Africa- there is a parasite that lays eggs in nappies. IIRC my grandma had to iron their terries to get rid/kill the eggs.

Ooh, good point MsF1t - MIL still irons EVERYTHING after living in Kenya till Dh was 6yo, maybe terries would be asiest to iron flat, or a cotton/bamboo nappy as not sure about ironing fleece? but maybe the bugs don't like manmade fibres so the problem would be less?

Hopefully someone with more uptodate info will be along soon
