why do parents need to learn manners form their children? Confused

TheOneWithTheHair · 20/02/2012 13:44

Here we go again. What have they done now?

Wait till you have teenagers. Then maybe you won't judge so quickly. Why tar them all with the same brush! Angry

Why dread it? And what is 'cottesmore'? All parents need to teach their children manners and what is acceptable behaviour but IMHO that's a pretty basic part of being a parent. My DS will be 12yo in a few months. We once watched the Harry Enfield sketch where 'Kevin' hits 13 and turns into a moody, floppy-armed, grunting nightmare and, bless him, he promised that he'll try his best not to get that bad. Frankly, I don't care. Even if I get a few years of yelling, door-slamming and random angst, I'll still love him :)

I think OP meant "teach their children manners".

I have never heard of Cottesmore.

My teenage Ds and his friends know how to behave TYVM

Dreading your children growing up because you think they are bound to behave badly is probably the best way of ensuring that they grow up into the kind of teens that do behave badly. Self fulfilling prophecies are very powerful things.

Imho there is nothing more likely to turn a young person against authority than a miserable negative parent who is just waiting for them to put a foot wrong.

Agree with above and what is a number my teen just floating along and we had no probs other daughter seems ok too [She 12] Even if do rebel and turn into monsters just remember how we were and we turned out ok ....
