DD has turned into a dreadful sleeper. She's 18 months and used to sleep and nap great.

Now she wakes several times a night and at least once a week she is up for several hours- last night it was 1.30 until 530am and then she slept until 9am when I woke her. She has no problem going down at 7pm and naps well (around two hours) after lunch.

I can't cope with it and I'm scared there's no end in sight. Help :(

Hi Nicknakcks - look up 18 month sleep regression and recite MN mantra

'this too will pass'!

Much sympathy - DS2 has only just started sleeping better and he's 2. Have you tried reducing the daytime nap?

NickNacks · 16/02/2012 15:21

Interesting thanks- I didn't realise sleep regressions continued passed 12 months so will look into it.

I've not considered reducing her nap just yet as I've also believed sleep breeds sleep and she might be overtired come bedtime of not resting I'm the day enough. I'm willing to try anything though!!

'this too shall pass'

Oh no no no no no no! There's an 18 month regression?? We've just come through the 11/12 month hell and now I have more to look forward to?

LotusPalm · 16/02/2012 19:21

Unfortunately so!

I'd be loath to cut the lunchtime nap at this stage, especially as she's always been a good sleeper before. How long has it been going on for?

I sympathise whole heartedly though. I had a 14 hour a night sleeper who suddenly started waking up at night, then started fighting going to sleep. Now he sleeps a 'normal' amount at night, but I'm hoping it's a phase and he'll go back to 8am wake ups! I am 33 weeks pregnant though, so hope that makes up for my greedy sleep grabbing!
