I'm afraid I glaze over when I see another angst-ridden american trying to make out the French are some kind of calm alien species. The implication of statements like "Yet the French have managed to be involved with their families without becoming obsessive".... is that everyone else is obsessive about their families. Maybe some neurotic people are, maybe all americans are, who knows.... but I really don't identify with it personally.
