Help! Baby hasn't slept since 2pm

My DS is 9 months and normally sleeps pretty well at night (7-7, sometimes with one wake-up). But today he hasn't slept really since he woke up from his lunchtime nap at 2pm. He's dropped off a couple of times for ten minutes but then wakes up screaming. He doesn't have a temperature (have checked several times). He does have a bit of a cold, and half a tooth coming through but he's had these before and never anything like this.

We are singing to him/cuddling him when he wakes up but nothing seems to work. I guess it must be teething pain? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be and what we could try?

I would give a wee calpol if he seems distressed. Have you tried rubbing his wee back? Might be trapped wind.

Sometimes my dd gets over tired and fractious when she's teething and the only way to get her to sleep is to swaddle her. She's 14 months so really too big for it but it does the trick.

Thanks Jenny. He eventually dropped off but kept waking every hour or so coughing, poor thing. Will take him to doctor's today I think.
