I've bought from here before, try them:

When I was looking for a single for DD1 I noticed quite a few 'shorty' beds online.. Maybe try googling for that.

DD2 has a junior bed from Ikea. It appears bigger than a cot bed but not quite as big a single. How old is he?

Argos - all ranges, all sizes, great prices :)

Ikea do extendable beds - e.g. Minnen metal one. You can have them at toddler bed size, full single, and one in between. The mattress comes in 3 bits.

Argos do a good 4foot wide bed with storage drawers. I have had one in my spare room for 6 years now and its had good comments from all who've slept in it.
