When do you need to stop swearing?

Well of course I shouldn't swear at all but I do when I cut myself and talk about certain politicians. I don't swear at things/people. DD is 3 months at the moment so by when do I really need to stop to make sure her first word isn't "bugger"?

I try my very hardest not to around any children of any age. They are like sponges.

when my DS was a few weeks old my DD's class teacher asked me to take him into show the class and answer questions about bebies in general. the teacher was called out of the room for a short time and the subject has turned to speech and children were telling eachother their forst words. One little boy piped up- "my first word was a swear word- and it began with 'bug'" I struggled to keep a straight face.

Soon as really, I try to not do it now but DD (2.2) dropped her blueberries on the floor the other day and announced 'oh shit'. Not good.

I remember making a distinct effort when DS was nearly a year old.

Dh and I stopped swearing when I was pg with dc1. We knew that we would need to get into the habit of not swearing, we wouldn't be able to stop just like that.

There's been a lot of sugar and bottom in our house since then!Grin

Evidently, definitely by the time they are 3 and 5.

Work on your alternatives now so they come out automatically by the time your DD is bigger. We have borrowed the following from Winnie the Witch:

Kangaroo's poos
Dimpled slug bottoms

They are quite satisfying.
