when your child has a raised temperature and you put them to bed do they have the covers on as normal. My 4 yr old ds always wants to keep his on and i don't want to freeze him but then again i don't want to make him have a fever fit. what do yoy do?

I would suggest, Paracetemol and covers on ... when his temperature drops you don't want him getting cold.

I've been putting ds1 (4) to bed as usual (duvet) and ds2 (22 months) to bed with duvet but without his fleecy all in one thing he usually wears. They've both been spending a lot of time in bed with me as well- but its easy to keep an eye on them there. Unless you have a history of febrile convulsions (when obviously its really important to monitor the temp like crazy) don't be too worried by high fevers- it helps fight infection. Obviously yuo don't want them getting too hot but don't feel panicked by it. Some children run high fevers. Both my boys will go over 41 when they're poorly- neither has ever had any problems.

btw I even got told that "fever is good" by a maintream doctor recently- I almost passed out- I'm used to alternative practioners saying it but the idea seems to be becoming more mainstream now.

having said that a high fever makes you feel pretty grotty- so I'm not saying don't treat it, just don't panic about it.

Mine have never had high temps... well only for a few hours ... but I would say normal covers but don't have heating on in the room. Hope your ds is better soon.
