......before the arrival of baby? My friend has some NCT homework on this question so this is sort of cheating by asking you all!

thanks

A changing mat
Loads of newborn nappies ( most were brought for us LO lasted about a week in newborn nappies)
Ermmmm can't think if any more at the mo but will be back later!

worldgonecrazy · 24/01/2012 16:53

Plastic changing mat. Never used it, either used the fold up one out of the changing bag, or just a towel.

Tanyaaah · 24/01/2012 16:55

Got given a baby bath support which I thought was pointless as she would just get cold laid on a plastic seat, and would mean we would have to run a full bath of water to put it in. Just used a baby bath instead.

Nipple shields, bought just in case, didn't need them. Lansinoh worked!

Nasal aspirator thing for sucking the snot out of baby's nose! That was just in case too.

A wrap thing for swaddling, couldn't work it out, too much velcro and fabric.

Got given cloth nappies, didn't have space in my brain to work them out either! There were lots of different bits, pant type things, fabric bits and liners. Still have them for lying on changing mat to soak up any wee!

Evil nappy disposer thing. Total waste of money & badly named. Should be called dirty nappy storage unit. Vaguely hummed too - not of poo, but of nasty scented nappy bags & stale wee - really horrible thing.

Tinkerisdead · 24/01/2012 17:04

Opposite of tanyaah. Baby bath and bath stand. Used it for a week then i switched to a fabric bath support in big bath.

Baby swing. Dd hated it. Cost 90quid too.

Cot bedding bale. Used grobags so never used cot sized blankets.

Weirdly all of those things i've got out and scrubbed ready for dc2 in two weeks yet i know i wont use them!

LunarRose · 24/01/2012 17:05

baby carrier sling thing (could never manage longer than 10 mins without backache)

Elfontheedge · 24/01/2012 17:25

Sponge bath support. Not supposed to fill bath deeper than halfway up it so ended up trying to bath baby in an inch of rapidly cooling water.

Popbiscuit · 24/01/2012 17:29

Change table.
Baby Swing (used approx. 3 times before it was outgrown).

Double Stroller (used sling/Bjorn plus single stroller or double baby jogger instead).
Diaper Pail. Ew.

G1nger · 24/01/2012 18:07

Moses basket. Only useful for 5 weeks, before baby was no longer comfy in it. It was useful for parking him in indirect light though to address his jaundice.

Cinquefoil · 24/01/2012 18:10

A cot - never used it as he just won't sleep in it.

Also, didn't use the pushchair until he was 7 months - used a sling.

StickyGhost · 24/01/2012 19:48

The heaps of newborn clothes, grown out of in two weeks and never got to wear even half of them.......gutted!

LittleWaveyLines · 24/01/2012 19:57

Moses basket - she would never sleep in it
Pram - she hates it. I am now a fully converted babywearer and getting a collection of slings!
Baby vibrate rocker chair thing - again she hated it...

nectarina · 24/01/2012 20:11

Bought millions of muslins believing all babies puke - dd possetted about three times. Also imagined i'd be changing her babygros every few hours so we bought loads and found that they'd stay pristine for days at a time. (the exploding nappy stage came later)

Baby gym, you know, one of those bloody things like an inflatable doughnut with an arch to dangle toys from above it. Yu plonk the baby in the doughnut hole and watch it freak out, then take the baby out again. You try it a few weeks later: same result. You regret the £40 spend and wish you'd spent it on wine instead.

Heswall · 24/01/2012 20:18

Any comforter type thing, the only comforter they wanted was me

Superene · 24/01/2012 20:18

Doorswing, bumbo seat, too many cot blankets, bootees, scratch mitts, that's it really.

Tigresswoods · 24/01/2012 20:20

Scratch mits. Loads of little babygros have them built in.

Meglet · 24/01/2012 20:24

Top and tail bowl.

Scratch mitts.

Baby hat.

Wind-up mobile. Stupid thing only went for about 20 seconds before it needed winding again. Then we bought a whizzy light show electronic one that played 10 mins of lullabies, perfect for me to have a shower while the baby watched it Smile.

Woodlands · 24/01/2012 20:30

Nasal snot sucker thingy. Though I did actually see someone using one of these on their child in a cafe recently. It was REVOLTING. DH and I couldn't decide whether to laugh or vomit.

Bath support seat, though I got that free on Freecycle (and got rid of it there again). You had to run the bath really full to get the baby even partially submerged. We used a baby bath (that I got on Freecycle again) until about 5 months and then the big bath.

Never buy a baby bath new. Every charity shop I've ever been into seems to have one, and they always come up on Freecycle too.

squiggles2311 · 24/01/2012 20:33

booties, scratch mitts, nipple pads, flat sheets for cot - unneccessary, too many cot blankets, changing table attachment for cot, pacapod nappy bag-horrendous!

severnofnine · 24/01/2012 20:34

plastic changing mat- used a towel instead

moses basket- co slept when small

any kind of "baby outfit" pain in the arse to put on .... all wore babygrows only til about 6 months old

PPPop · 24/01/2012 20:35
