How Do You Prevent Overnight Leaks?

So my son is 2.7 and we're just getting into potty training so deffo need nappy at night.

He is changed once before I go to bed (I usually manage to not wake him!) and yet he is waking up soaking every morning.

Have tried most brands of nappies and have changed sizes and things. Have also reduced the amount he drinks before bed. Nothing seems to help. He just pees an unbelievable amount. And, yes, have spoke to GP and there is nothing medically wrong.

Any other suggestions?

you could buy some bamboo or cotton boosters that are used in cloth nappies and pop one or two of those in at night.

my nearly 4yo ds is still in nappies at night and i have sainbo's own brand really good at containg his huge amounts of pee, i put a pull-up on him before he goes to bed and not that lasts the night.

Is his nappy soaked through too? The reason I ask is a couple of times when DS has been soaked in the morning (pjs and bedding included) I've noticed his willy poking to the side. Effectively bipassing the nappy for most of the wee. Is it happening every night?

Or what about a reusable nappy liner over the top of his usual nappy?

Yeah, nappy completely full. It's not a fitting issue it's a he pees a lot issue!

Others have said resuables as well so I am investigating!

DH and I got sick of changing all the cot bedding every day:

  • Disposible nappy + booster pad.
  • Terry nappy over that.
  • Plastic pants over the top.

DS looks a bit like a tombliboo when in this arrangment but hasn't leaked once since we started it. eBay does some good, cheap, large plastic pants but I appologise in advance for all the rather disturbing items you get if you don't narrow your search down to the baby section only.

I had endless trouble with this with DS2. someone on MN advised me to put a large-ish piece of cotton wool on his (downwards pointing) penis before covering with a nappy. I also put a 2nd nappy on over the top, one size bigger, but actually think the cotton wool does the job. I was delighted when I found it worked!
