one is that when you become a parent you will need to develop asbestos hands really quickly!

The app has a loud klaxon which sounds when you are cuddling your baby for no good scientific reason.

It aims to stamp out all motherly instinct and pointless bodily contact within a maximum of 4 weeks.

QuintessentiallyShallow · 17/01/2012 12:12

No, because Gina Ford is NOT above free speech. There is no libel here.

She is NOT an Iraqi dictator (I hope)

FriggFRIGG · 17/01/2012 12:15

I wouldn't be surprised.

When my friend bought her book I told her to burn it immediately and avoid a nervous breakdown. I am a good friend. Grin

MmeLindor. · 17/01/2012 12:32

On second thoughts, I am off to restock the bunker.

Quint

TwllBach · 17/01/2012 12:41

The Gina F...SWMNBN fiasco was before my MN birth - what actually happened?

whoknowsme · 17/01/2012 12:46

silverangel

and all midwives should, by extension of your theory, wear a badge stating whether they themselves have actually given birth.

It's like with any method of doing something that you read up on, you need to adapt the best bits of it into your routine, not slavishly try and adopt the whole of someone else's suggested routine. One size does not fit all.

Just use your brains.

I read her Contented Baby book, learned from it and took some of it on board and it certainly helped me understand my first baby better and made my life easier.

whoknowsme · 17/01/2012 12:47

anyway, more to the point, I don't get the asbestos hands reference.

Asbestos mouth to bolt down hot meals/drinks before attending to crying infant, maybe.

ragged · 17/01/2012 13:27

How to keep the kittens off my kitchen counters? That would be quite useful advice. Presuming that SWWNBN has an answer for everything.

ragged · 17/01/2012 13:28

TwllBack look here.

TwllBach · 17/01/2012 13:34

Oooh the drama!

On a slight tangent, Justine is ace isn't she? ?We are very relieved that the issue is over, it was a commercial decision to settle because although we were told that we had a case, we could not afford to take it to court." She is like a RL version of Buffy

Byeckerslike · 17/01/2012 13:35

Grin 'strapping babies to a rocket and sending them to lebanon' Grin whoever said that is genius!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 17/01/2012 13:52

Quint - that is terrible. I thought you were being very witty and had constructed an elabroate joke.

WHY would something like that exist.

Totally agree that that book is purely for nanny's to get their charges to sleep in order to be convenient, NOT a parenting manual for a mother who instinctively wants to parent, not train, her baby.

QuintessentiallyShallow · 17/01/2012 13:54

GetOrf, I wish!! Shock

Friend is in the US, though.

MyOhMyOh · 17/01/2012 13:54

Holy crap, I thought you were being hilariously satirical too Shock

ragged · 17/01/2012 14:03

I think that was Morningpaper's phrase, @ Byeckers

(is MP still around?)

Bad joke, really bad joke, retold very badly by someone in MNHQ in radio Interview in the midst of Israel's last little skirmish with neighbours. But still just an obvious silly remark, taking Mick out of GF critics more than anything else.

There was another rather personal daft joke a year or 2 before that (no I won't repeat), and that's what kicked off GF's original anti-MN vendetta, because people didn't think it was a joke & thought it was an insider truth about her personal life.
