To potty train before new baby or to wait...?

I'm due a second baby in May, when dd will be 2years 3 months. She's showing many of the "signs" you're supposed to look out for already so I'm trying to decide whether to go for it in a couple of months time - maybe in Feb/March with the aim of getting her fully dry (daytime at least) before the baby's born or whether to just put it on hold and not even think about it until a few months after the birth. Part of me thinks that even though both would be in nappies it might actually be easier than constantly having to find toilets and coping with situations where dd needs to go while i'm breasteeding No. 2 etc etc! Then again, might be difficult to get a chance to devote the attention it would require after the baby's born. Any advice from anyone who's been in the situation would be great!

I'd say after, too.

And the longer you leave it the more chance she'll be properly ready, so the less time and attention it will take.

Another vote here for waiting until a few months after the baby arrives. I have a ds of almost 3 who is still in nappies and am 7mths pregnant. The thought of potty-training him while looking after a new baby fills me with absolute dread!

wait
hello bundle, how's the homemade ham

bundle · 17/01/2006 14:43

god it's marvellous. should start up in business methinks, along with the green tomato chutney, choc/prune puds and delicious pancakes. how's the heatwave? and the fragrant boys?

suzywong · 17/01/2006 14:48

can you email me the recipe please if you don't mind

heat is ok but mad dogs and all that, have to learn to stay in at midday. Big fragrant boy has been bitten by a spider os OK though

sorry to hijack, my ds1 was 2.4yr when ds2 was born and I waited til he was 2.8yrs to do it. Soooooo much easier

Thaks for advice everyone - my gut feeling is to wait so am pleased that seems to be everyone's view so far! I just seem to have met quite a few people yesterday saying how awful it is to have 2 in nappies etc etc so began to doubt myself!
