I'm thinking of sponsoring a child through Plan for my daughter.

Hi my daughter is nearly 7 although developmentaly she's more like 5.5- 6 years old. She is being home educated and I thought it's be a lovely way for her to connect with another child from a different country and also understand that not all children are as fortunate as herself.

Do you think she's old enough to appreciate this, or would it be better to wait until she's a bit older? I know she'd find it strange not being able to meet the child but I'd hope she'd understand.

Can you choose a girl or a boy and what age? I know she'd like a girl of the same age or younger. I don't think she'd make any connection to an older girl or a boy of any age. Hmm That's just her.

I'd love to hear from anyone who does this. Thanks. Smile

We have done this for DS since he was six. We sponsor through PLAN, I called them and requested a boy of around the same age in any country as my DS would be writing to him. They were happy to do this and sent us the details of a boy in Camaroon who is 4 months older.

DS writes to him and sends him stickers, pencils, magazines etc, DS is thrilled when he gets a letter back from him and is genuinely interested in life in Camaroon now. They both get a lot from the relationship.

That sounds really good. Thank you, I've already phoned up and I'm getting an info pack. It will be nice to sponsor a girl of the same age as mine. Smile
