my 19mnth yr old daughter bear huggs chilldren

hi there dose anyone eles have this issu? my daughter bear huggs and dosent let go of children when we are at soft play areas and i get daggers from other mums! she dosnt mean any harm she just likes to cuddle but its making me not want to take her any where! any advice???

thanks for the advice ill do that. also we seem to have a problem with a high pitch scream, this happens when we go shopping, dinner time and sometimes bed time! dose anyone eles have these problems?or is it just me?

Agree about hovering and stepping in to stop the bear-hugging. My DS used to do that and other children didn't like it at all. Screaming is annoying. if you're out and about you could try distraction. Look and point suddenly, say something outrageous like 'did you see that enormous purple elephant over there!!!???' and the noise usually stops. At home, ignore screaming and carry on as if nothing is happening. When the screaming stops, then give your attention.

Quite a common one, bear-hugging other toddlers! And yes, although it's more benign than hitting or biting, it can be just as upsetting for other children (my DD would get very upset when other children tried to cuddle her, for example - she's more resigned to that kind of tactility now though). So birds advice is spot on there. Your DD definitely isn't the only one who does it, though!
