Bouncy chair thing - which is best?!

Right, I am 21 weeks pg and trying to get as organised as possible whilst I am still able to shop around. I want to buy a bouncing cradle, so I can lay/sit the baby down in whichever room I am in - without him having to be in his car seator move the crib from the bedroom.

I looked at some at the weekend but not having had one before, I really can't tell which is best. I know I want one with a multi-position back and if it vibrated or rocked that would be good but apart from that, they all seem the same. Any advice on which to get??

Looking at some of them they seemed really shoddily made and not very sturdy - is there one that is better than the others or are they all the same?

any of the multi position back ones are good. Chicco are particularly nice and thickly padded - I've had one that has done 3 babies and is about to be used for the 4th (and has done a couple of friend's babies as well now I come to think of it).

wouldn't bother with a vibrating one.

they all rock if you do it with yout toe.

don't go for one of the fixed wire frames ones, we had one briefly for the first and it was hopeless, too steep for when they are v little and no ability to lie them flat later was a real pain.

i got this one Its really good as it lies flat as well and is nicely padded my 7 week old loves it.

I have the Baby Bjorn one which is lovely - the slightest movement from the baby sets it rocking. One of my friends bought an all singing/dancing one and much prefers mine. Also, unlike the others which only last until 9mths, this one will last up to 2 years as a toddler chair as you can take the front strap off. It's not garish like some either!

I was looking at that one but couldn't work out if I was just being silly and liking the one that looks nicest, as opposed to the one that actually does the job best...if you see what I mean! Can I ask why your friend prefers your one to her one?

How much did you pay for it and where did you biy it from?

The one we bought, we bought for looks and to be honest, it was quite useless - it was an M&P one that vibrated but was only in one position. DD was very small so wasn't comfortable in it for ages and then as soon as she started wanting to sit up it was too far back. I won't use it again for another - the one I have seen that works really well I think is the chicco one. The vibrating mode isn't that useful tbh - I used to bounce dd by foot instead.

Had Chicco one for dd, like PPH and enid, which was very comfy for her and sturdy. It was great because she needed to be quite upright from an early age due to reflux but she still seemed well supported and could play under her gym while in it.

We got this one in a 2nd hand shop for £15 (looks like we was ripped off!) But very useful.

Thanks for the advice Hazlenut, I was just looking at the M&P one with the stationary back - you may have just saved me wasting the money!

I've got the same one that BonyM has and found it to be great.

It has three positions, vibrates anyway with slight movement, is completely washable in the machine and reversible.

The only problem was ds was quite active in it and the button thing that attaches to the front pouch bit came apart. I sewed it back on and it has been fine since, and, considering that ds has used it for a lot longer than he would have used a converntional one I wasn't too bothered about that.

Also it doesn't have much padding, but we used it from when ds was tiny.

I can't remember how much the Baby Bjorn one was but we got it from a department store called Daniels in West Ealing.

runtus - my friend prefers the Baby Bjorn because the baby can bounce it itself - you don't have to sit there rocking it with your foot.

Like saadia, we have used it from when dd2 was very tiny and she always seemed comfortable in it. Can't remember how much I paid tbh but I shopped around on the net and got it a fair bit cheaper than the rrp. Safetots have it at a good price.

We have a Hauck which was bought for about £20 in a sale in a local baby shop. It is really handy and will last till she is 15kgs. I didnt want one at first but wouldnt be without it now. I would have preferred the play bar to go across the front though.

I also have another one which i used for ds, my sister brought it from mothercare, it has 3 position reclining seat & is padded it can also be put on rock or still think it was about 45.00

folds flat so I can put it in the car,
has carry handles so I can move it about the house with me
vibrates
plays lullabies
has washable covers
rocks or stands still

Apart from the washing up- couldn't think of anything else I would want it to do!
