Epilepsy and Concessionary Bus Passes

OH has had epilepsy since he was a teenager, although he now takes no medication for it and his seizures (tonic/clonic) are infrequent (5 year gap between last two seizures).

Bit confused about whether he would qualify for a disabled bus pass, the directgov website indicates that he would however the county website talks about disability must be greater than 12 months. Seeing as he would qualify due to being refused a license by the DVLA, but the refusal would possibly only last for 12 months until he was free from seizures for a year I can't work out whether he'd qualify.

Anyone shed any light?

I have epilepsy and I take medication and have seizures approximately every 6 weeks. WRT your OH, I would imagine that what would happen is that if he has had a seizure in the last 12 months and therefore is not eligible for a driving licence then if the doctor clearly writes this in his letter then he will get a 12 month bus pass. It would then be reviewed after 12 months. The doctor has to be very clear in what they write as councils can be very strict and even turn down applications with a letter.

His last seizure was over Christmas time hence wondering about it now. So I guess first port of call is reporting the seizure to the doctor. As he takes no medication, he's never had any epilepsy related contact with the health service in this country so it's always a bit strange filling out anything. Often he can't tick something to say controlled with medication even though his seizures are very infrequent.

hey, agree with other post. If had a seizure and therfore not allowed to drive for one year seizure free your dr will need to write and you present this to correct issuing office for pass.
