Can't believe how nervy I feel.

About putting dd2 to bed.

We have been having major probs with her at various times, bedtime, being one of them.

Anyway all week whilst I have been working, she has gone to bed as good as gold for dp.

I have just put her up and I am so anxious and worried that she will start playing up, i feel sick.

She has shoutd once so far to ask me if i'd washed my hands after i went the loo

Am trying to think positive, and relax.

sorry nutcracker lol at washing hands question - what age is she.

We are the opposite my dd plays up for dh but not me, she has slept in total darkness since she was born and for the few nights she has started telling him she is scared so that he will stay and she can gab to him - I put her to bed tonight and she said night night mum love you see you in the morning in a wee sweet singsong voice!!

Dd is 6. She asked about me washing my hands cos she has slight OCD to do with handwashing/germs.

Am not going to tell you if it is still quiet here or not, cos i might jinx it LOL.

sorry for sounding silly nutcracker but what is OCD?? Is it like a phobia or a fear of something if so how was it diagnosed?

OCD is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Dd's started at around 3 yrs and gradually the obession got worse and each period of it would last longer and longer.

She has had a couple of sessions with a psych and is greatly improved. She now has rules about how many times and when she can wash her hands and I have to physically restrain her if she tries to break the rules, but thankfully I have only had to do that twice.

Most of the time now she is fine, but when she is anxious or stressed it comes back.

sorry to hijack but just wanted to ask you nutcracker about the OCD as ds (4 next week) sometimes gets quite stressed about hand-washing and getting his hands dirty.

He won't touch certain foods with his fingertips but uses his finger knuckles instead. He doesn't do it a lot and only with certain foods and so far I have just ignored it but I was wondering if this kind of thing should be forcibly nipped in the bud and when should it be regarded as a problem? TIA

my dd is 3 and always wants to wash her hands but I obviously this is just because she can reach the taps and do it herself now - and play in the water. So do you know how it change from curiosity/playing to ocd, did she touch something taht made her sick or anything, again sorry if this is astupid question

Hi saadia, tbh i would say that if is effecting his routine or behaviour or effecting other members of the family then it is at least worth spaking to your g.p.

With dd it was starting to effect lots of things as she would get upset if she thought anyone who touched her had dirty hands, get hysterrical if she couldn't wash her hands after using the loo etc.

There were two occasions that made me realise dd was getting a big prob with it, on was when sh cried and cried at me not to tuck her into bed, because i had been to the toilet and she hadn't seen me wash my hands, and the other was when we stopped to us the loo on a long journey and there was no soap. She screamed and cried for a good 45 minutes in th car after wards, and sat with her arms out stretched so her hands were as far away from her as possible.

If you are at all worried i would see your g.p. I am glad I did because I hadn't a clue what to do about it.

mummygow, the only thing i can think of, is that once when she was toilet training, she got a bit of poo on her hand. I didn't make a fuss about it at all but can remember dd being very upset about it.

At first the episodes of handwashing / germ obsession were quite far apart and didn't last long but as she got older the episodes lasted longer and got closer together.

They aren't stupid questions by the way

Thanks nutcracker, ds's stressing is intermittent at the moment and not really a noticeable problem as such. I did mention it at his nursery but they said they hadn't noticed anything. I think there is the potential for his behaviour to become more extreme so I will have to monitor things.

But I'm glad to hear that your dd is getting help and improving.

Anyway how did it go? Did she get up?

All went well until about 2.45 am when sh woke and refused to go back to sleep and kept shouting and crying until about 5 am, so I am a bit knackered.

Me and my mom have taken them to see The Snowqueen today at the theatre but unfortunatly dd played up alot and was almost hystrical when the soap dispenser in the toilets was empty, bashing it until she got a tiny drop out.

She is in bed again now, with a promise of a sticker for her behaviour chart if she can gt through the whole night with no probs.

I have a teeny tiny bit of OCD nutcracker (left over from moderate OCD as a teenager) and would have been right there with her bashing that soap dispenser (obv not having a tantrum though)
Mine cleared up without treatment and I'm MUCH more chilled now. There is hope
