Hi, My little girl is using gaviscon in her milk and is on the fast flow avent 4 teats, which are fine at first, but when the milk cools & thickens, it bearly comes through, causing her to fuss not take the rest, it is driving me mad! Are there any bootleg teats that you can recommend, to help with this issue? Thanks

Strangely we found we could carry on using our MAM teats (level 1 & 2) as normal, we were even still using these teats along with his gaviscon at 9 months when perhaps we should have gone up a few levels. Xxx

My dd2 is also on Gaviscon (1 sachet per bottle which is currently made up with 5 ozs of water and 5 scoops) and still on slow flow teats. I give her her milk up to two hours after having warmed it (if she doesn't finish it in one go) so it ends up a bit thicker too. How much gaviscon are you putting in to how much milk?

Avnet do vary flow teats with a slit instead of the holes. I'll try and find a link for them x

My ds2 was on Gaviscon.

I couldn't put it into a bottle as he was/is BF so just used to syringe it in when he needed it.

Could you do that?

romola · 02/01/2012 21:18

Hi,
Probably not much use to you, but Tommee Tippee vari flow X teats worked a treat for us with gaviscon. A syringe is a really good idea and giving it after a feed can help it to stay down a little better.

Thank you everyone for your messages, it seems to have fixed itself, but we are thinking about weaning in the next few weeks. Has anyone tried that and how does it work with gaviscon? Smile

truffle does your dd have reflux? I found that once ds was on 3 meals a day his reflux went away and he always keeps his milk down now without gaviscon. He was on 2 sachets. I just dropped to one sachet for a week then stopped them altogether. Although I don't think you have to reduce them like that really

TruffleTasha · 04/01/2012 07:29

Hi, yes my dd has reflux and is on 2 sachets of gaviscon on her milk 4 out of the 5 bottles I give her. She has a non gaviscon bottle first thing in the morning. But I'm finding that she is taking 45mins to feed on a fast flow teat, where it used to take 15/20 mins :( I think she is becoming less interested in her milk and think it is time to start weaning. She is 5m 2wks. Any advice? Thanks Smile

I think that it a great age to wean personally, I weaned both mine at that age.

I found that ds's reflux just stopped after he was weaned. Wrt your dd taking longer to drink her milk, I didnt experience that so I am not sure. Maybe you could try reducing her to one sachet since she will be having solids too? How does she get on with the bottle with no gaviscon in it? I used avent level 3 teats and they have been fine. The vari flow teats are a good idea too. It is all so expensive isnt it!

I would add that I asked for some advice re reflux on here and a few people told me their dc's reflux didnt stop until they were walking. My ds was fine so hopefully it is more unusual for it to last longer.

Hope I have been of some help and not just rambled!!

TruffleTasha · 04/01/2012 20:44

No you are not rambling and to be honest I am grateful for the help you have provided. I gave my ds her first experience of baby rice this afternoon and she managed 3/4 of the portion :) I am pleased she took it. So i will keep doing that for a while, but i will speak to my hv tomorrow about her laziness on her bottles :)
Thanks again!
