Local Parents Groups on Facebook v's Mumsnet?

I run a local parents group for Sandhurst on Facebook called "Parents" and people from the local area can share recommendations on local businesses and resources for the children and family, or they can ask for help and support.

A bit like a localised version of Mumsnet. Do people prefer to use Facebook for this kind of thing, or come to a larger resource pool like Mumsnet?

Im in a couple of local groups like you describe on Facebook too. I prefer Mumsnet for general advice, but I do like the closeness of everybody on Facebook, its where Ive actually made some RL friends. Also if you do hear of an offer or get good service somewhere then its good to have a place to tell people like on facebook. Though as it is localised its not as busy so doenst get many things happening like MN does.

I use both but for different reasons, im on the parents group and i look at that each day to see if anything interests me. Where as i use mn for advice and the parenting threads, especially the post natal one. I have looked at mn for local things but i think because people from all over the world use mn, it will be hard to find that many people in the same area that would use the thread for local businesses etc. Smile
